9 Step SEO On Page
Use the following 9 Step SEO On Page checklist to make sure a web page is optimized for search engines:
Keywords
□ How would one search for content on the page? What words would they use? Are those words in the copy?
□ Multiple versions of your keywords spread throughout the page i.e. synonyms and plural words?
□ Important keywords near the top of the page and near headings?
□ Title short and keyword -driven?
□ Do you need a full page title to further detail what the page is about?
□ The Keywords placed organically?
Content
□ Short paragraphs?
□ Headings for relevant subtopics?
□ Headings short?
□ Important statements/keywords bold or italicized?
Links
□ Link text descriptive of where the link will take the visitor?
□ Links have Advisory Titles?
Images
□ Image(s) relevant to the page?
□ Images have descriptive file names? All lower case letters and spaces separated out by dashes? Tip: One
should be able to look at the file name and know what department it is for and what it is a picture of.
□ Keyword
-rich alt text?
□ Keyword
- rich advisory title?
Metatags
□ Meta description filled out with 1
- 2 sentences of teaser text?
□ Metatag keywords filled out with a few useful keywords?
Final Check
□ Location of the page within emerson.edu logical?
□ Proper grammar?
□ Spell check?
□ Content written for the Audience, not SEO?
□ Page linked from multiple pages on the website?
